A rural carrier finds joy in serving customers — on the clock and off

My name is RaeLee Curtis and I’m a rural carrier in Monroe, UT — where I’ve worked for 30 years.

I love serving my customers. It means a lot to know people trust and respect me to deliver for them.

I’m also active in my community beyond delivering mail and packages.

I coach youth basketball and softball and have served as a youth council advisor for many years. Additionally, I’m part of the Civic League and Fireman’s Auxiliary, and I’m active with my church. I’ve also received the Monroe City Volunteer of the Year Award.

In my 31 years as a rural carrier, I’ve seen a lot of progress at the Postal Service — automation of mail, tracking and visibility through online resources such as usps.com and USPS Informed Delivery, and an increase of parcels because of online shopping since the pandemic.

Every day, I deliver hundreds of packages. It’s not just Grandma’s birthday presents anymore.

I’ve also received the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award, which is given to USPS employees who have driven 1 million miles, or for 30 years, without a preventable accident.

I enjoy the variety of customers I serve. Watching kids grow up and share their birthdays, visiting with elderly customers waiting for their mail, exchanging stories and fresh garden vegetables with people, and the friendly wave and hello from a porch inspire me every day.

I’ve had the best people on my route. It makes a huge difference to have great people and a great community working together to make great things happen.
