From NRLCA: Administration Issues Executive Order to Freeze the Hiring of Federal Employees, the Postal Service is Included in the Freeze

Ruralinfo.net note:  Someone said they had seen this on the nrlca website yesterday.  I logged in and could not find it under “Whats New”.   I then searched hiring freeze and this came up.  Not sure why it isn’t under “Whats New” but it is there if you search it..

On January 23rd, the Administration issued an executive order instituting a government wide hiring freeze. The executive order “applies to all executive departments and agencies regardless of the sources of their operational and programmatic funding…”. Only the military is exempt from the hiring freeze, meaning the Postal Service is impacted by the recently signed executive order.

Folks, as a former local Steward, now retired with 32 years of credible service, and a former Rural Carrier Academy Instructor, let me say this about the hiring freeze. It does not effect the Rural Carrier Craft. A hiring freeze has never done so. Why? Because our CONTRACT specifies that any Regular Rural Carrier may request a substitute (RCA). Management has, contractually, 120 days to provide one. Now, unless our contract has been suspended by the President, it is still in force.
