A Floyd County man has been charged with the death of one woman and serious injury of another following a report of multiple shots fired at a home on Fosters Mill Road Thursday night.

Dewayne David Tanner, 45, has been charged with murder, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime as a result of a domestic altercation that occurred around 8:17 p.m. on May 28, 2015.

Stephanie Tanner, 41, of 1560 Fosters Mill Road was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Garrett Barnes, who is a member of the SWAT team, according to Floyd County Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard.

The Floyd County Police Department responded to 1560 Fosters Mill Road on this date following a call to 911 by one of the victims. When officers arrived they identified the 911 caller, who was still alive, and one other person lying on the property near one of several houses.

The Rome-Floyd SWAT team was notified because it was believed that Tanner was likely hiding on the property, which is located in rural Floyd County near Morton Bend Road. Following an exhaustive search of the area, the suspect was later discovered while seeking medical attention at Cartersville Medical Center.

Tanner was arrested without incident and transported to the Floyd County Jail.

Please consider going to her sister, Shonna Dorsey’s Facebook page to the Go Fund created for her memorial and share so anyone who is able can help. She is high on that mountain now, she is free. Many love her, I love her. She will be forever missed.
