Lake Waccamaw woman is head of national group

A Lake Waccamaw resident who is a rural mail carrier out of the Atkinson post office has been elected national president of the 106,000-member National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association NRLCA. Jeanette Pierce Dwyer, the first woman ever elected to the post, is presently engaged in the contract negotiations with the U.S. Postal Service on behalf of the membership of the association. She had served as national vice president of the rural mail carriers’ group for three years and was elected to the association’s top position last August at the NRLCA national convention in Savannah, Ga.She served for six years on the organization’s executive committee.She is currently residing in a townhouse in Alexandria, Va., owned by the association and says she tries to return to her home at Lake Waccamaw at least once each month.
