On September 14, 2021, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the August 2021 Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) which established the Private Transportation Index at 241.773, an increase from the May 2021 Index of 229.942. Therefore, based on the August 2021 CPI-W release, the Equipment Maintenance Allowance (EMA) for rural carriers will increase 4.5¢ to 85.0¢ per mile.
This EMA rate will be effective October 9, 2021 (Pay Period 22-2021).
