Virginia RCA dies in crash on the route

AMELIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia State Police is investigating a crash that killed a U.S. Postal Service carrier in Amelia County.

Saturday, Aug. 17, at approximately 3:17 p.m., state police responded to a single-car crash that took place on Westbound on Patrick Henry Highway .25 miles east of Greenfield Lane.

According to state police, a 1993 Chevrolet S-10, US Postal Truck was driving westbound on Patrick Henry Highway/Route 360 when the truck ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, crossing over all lanes and hit trees on the left side.

The car was driven by 61-year-old Sandra E. Smith of Amelia Court. Police said Smith was ejected from the car and died from injuries on the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
