NRLCA: Influenza Virus Affects National Convention Attendees in Grand Rapids

At the close of the National Convention in Grand Rapids, we began to receive reports that some attendees were experiencing flu-like symptoms. It is possible that 100 or more convention attendees have been affected. We have been in contact with the Kent County Health Department, which has epidemiologists closely monitoring reports of Influenza A. The Kent County Health Department is also doing specimen testing to learn more about the virus and its possible origins. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is providing support and resources as well. We are awaiting more information about the Health Department’s data collection efforts and will share that information with you when we receive it. We wish all attendees who contracted the flu a very speedy recovery and will share updates with you as we receive more information from public health authorities.
