Brunk wraps up 31-year career with U.S. Postal Service in Worthington

BREWSTER — It was 7 a.m. Saturday morning, and Cindy Brunk’s cell phone began to ring. It was her first official day as a retiree following a 31-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, and though she was already awake, she wondered who would be calling her at such an early hour.

Turns out it was just one of the patrons on her route, wishing her a happy first day of retirement.

That was the start to her day, which ended with a surprise retirement party thrown by her family, friends and neighbors.

In between, she sat down for brunch to share stories about her career as a rural mail carrier on Route 4, encompassing the southwest edge of Worthington, the city of Bigelow and the farmsteads in between.
