Grand Junction postal worker dies while completing mail route

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – A Grand Junction man who worked for the United States Postal Service (USPS) died late last week.

The worker has been identified as 59-year-old Dan Workman, who was a letter carrier from Grand Junction and a nine-year veteran of the USPS.

According to the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 913, Workman died while completing his mail route on May 30.

Eric Salazar, the President of NALC Branch 913, sent us a statement saying “It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic passing of our brother, Dan Workman, who lost his life while completing his mail route in Grand Junction on Friday afternoon. Dan was highly esteemed by both his customers and colleagues. This devastating event has had a profound impact on our NALC and USPS community. Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Denver branch of the USPS sent us a statement saying, “We are shocked and saddened to learn of such a tragic death of one of our own employees and coworkers…Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends, including the people he worked with at the postal service.”

The cause of death has not been confirmed.
