More rural postal workers in the US speak out about thousands in lost wages due to new compensation formula

On May 31, the WSWS published an initial article on the new Rural Route Evaluation Compensation System for rural letter carriers in the US Post Office. This new pay system, based not on hours worked but on an “evaluation” based on the amount of mail delivered and difficulty in delivering it, is completely opaque and has resulted in drastic cuts to annual compensation, in some cases up to five figures.

Since then, the WSWS has received an overwhelming response from letter carriers, eager to share with the world the scope and impact of these cuts.

I still don’t understand how this isn’t in the mainstream media or how they can even do this. I am embarra*sed to work for a company that spits in the faces of their employees. Nobody has any clue how this system works. Management is incompetent at every level. Carriers nation wide have busted their a*ses for this company and this is the thanks we get. Good luck to all of you, I know there are some of you that took an even bigger cut than I did.

We’re appreciated. Just look at how much they gave us for all the extra parcel volume during COVID-19. Oh wait, my bad. Forget it 🤬

Yea let’s not talk about the routes that were disgustingly overpaid. Let’s not mention the fact that the reason why a lot of carriers lost money is because they didn’t take the new system seriously and didn’t bother to hit their scans everyday.

If you’re a union member, QUIT ASAP! File a PS Form 1188, Cancellation of Organization Dues from Payroll Withholdings, to cancel dues withholding.

Vinny hundreds if not thousands of carriers did the scans and still lost several hours a day because of the ridiculous time standards. I was talking to carrier retiring soon and he said this is the only job he has taken 4 pay cuts since he has started working here. That doesn’t sound right. How many other places cut your paycheck that many times in your career?

I have a friend who a postmaster and in their office every route became 48k, but they told him to wait until October to calculate again cut routes and make sure that everything is properly done. Carriers are still not getting paid 48k. In our office 2 zip codes. One zip code has all the data and routes went up, other missing CR Flats, WWS, accountable mail, parcel pickup are all went down except one route who had added growth. Most of routes who were 45-46k are low J or low H now. USPS is corrupted organization who steals from… Read more »

Is it true that carriers who added hours due to RRECS are not getting credited for those hours by USPS? I spoke to a carrier in Eastern Washington who says she was told that there was a “glitch in the system” and her pay would not be increased. How can USPS cut pay ma*sively and then refuse to increase pay, both under the same RRECS system?

Hey Vinny, I run a hundred mile rural route and they are only paying me for 82 miles. The route mileage has been certified and I still can’t get it corrected. I also deliver to 2 zip codes and I’m pretty sure I’m not getting credit for the smaller one but again I can’t get it corrected. I went from a 44k to a 43 h. So you can take your comment and shove it. Wait until October and they come in and cut your throat.

Retired city carrier here due to cancer. My post office was under the “study program” for the whole time. It seems the carriers who went by the book by scanning at the door, full stops at stop signs, seat belts, etc and the ones who didn’t both got bentover. I can’t understand why your union never fought to have your street time more like ours. It takes what it takes, unlimited comfort stops, etc. More and more rural routes are like city routes.

Be sure to thank your Union the NRLCA for your pay and benefit cuts! I bet Union dues decreased along with your paycheck! Postal Management just received a 10% pay increase, we thanked the NRLCA for the additional funding that gave us our raises.
