Rural carrier bravely aids dog attack victim

Sherri Collins, a rural carrier in Liberty, SC, was delivering mail one day last fall when she came upon a FedEx driver who was being attacked by an unleashed dog outside a residence.

Collins rushed to aid the man, who had been bitten twice and knocked to the ground.

She used dog repellent spray to safely end the attack.

The Postal Service employee then called 911 and stayed with the driver until paramedics arrived.

“Sherri showed exceptional bravery and saved the FedEx driver from additional serious harm,” said Liberty Postmaster Rodney Hansen.
