Rural Carrier Hero: Rick Sharpe, Ewing, MO

Ewing, MO, Rural Carrier Rick Sharpe was concerned when he recently noticed that an older customer’s mail had piled up in her box over several days.

Sharpe went to the woman’s front door to check on her but got no answer. He then spotted her through a window, collapsed on her living room floor.

The Postal Service employee called 911 and stayed on the scene until emergency responders arrived.

He also notified a Ewing Post Office co-worker, who contacted the customer’s daughter.

“The daughter was extremely grateful for Rick’s concern for her mother’s well-being and his initiative to seek assistance for her,” said local Officer in Charge Shawn Baker.

Employees featured in “Heroes’ corner” also receive letters of commendation through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program. The nomination form is available on Blue.
