Shortly before 3:30 p.m., Sheriff Buddy Harwood posted a photo of the vehicle, a Jeep with “U.S. Mail” and “Frequent stops” listed on the back of the vehicle.

The suspect allegedly walked up to a female US Postal worker and shot her in the head then stole the vehicle. Although shot in the head, the victim is still alive and was talking with investigators. The only motive at this time was armed robbery.

Mars Hill University and Madison County Schools were told of a potentially armed dangerous suspect in the immediate area, resulting in the lockdown of the university and Mars Hill Elementary School.

The lockdown was lifted after officers told school officials they believed the suspect they were looking for had left the area.

Multiple law enforcement agencies worked throughout the night searching for the suspect.

Just before 5:45 a.m. this morning, officials in Burke County confirmed the suspect in mail carrier attack had been captured. The subject was caught at approximately 5:00am this morning in Burke County near exit 103 close to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

The subjects alledged name is 23 year old Jayden Isaiah.
