Rural Carrier Vehicle Struck On Hwy. 55 in Goldsboro, NC (PHOTO GALLERY)

Firefighters from Smith Chapel Fire Department and EMS Station 3 responded to a two vehicle accident Monday.

The white Chevrolet car driven by postal carrier Bonnie Moody of Mount Olive was rear-ended by a Ford F-150 truck driven by Felipe Ibarra of Dudley just before lunchtime Monday on Highway 55 West between Mount Olive and Smith Chapel.

Fire and EMS worked to free Moody from her car in the 1900-block of Highway 55 West of Mount Olive. The postal carrier was apparently slowing down to make a right hand turn into a driveway to deliver some mail when she was struck by the Ford truck that had just rounded a curve.

The collision pushed the postal carrier car off the road and into a ditch. Both vehicles were heading toward Mount Olive when the accident happened.

According to the Highway Patrol, Ibarra was charged with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
