SC Rural mail carrier seriously injured in wreck

A rural mail carrier was seriously injured in a single-car accident in the 1500 block of Three Mile Road in Walterboro Monday Sept. 12 at 3:33 p.m.

The northbound Isuzu Rodeo lost control on the gravel road, struck the ditch bank and overturned. The small SUV struck a tree causing heavy damage to the vehicle.

Two construction workers drove up on the accident, called 9-1-1 and assisted the woman prior to Fire-Rescue units arriving. The woman suffered multiple traumatic injuries.

Firefighter-paramedics stabilized her at the scene, then transported her emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical in Summerville.

Postmaster Doug Mixson Jr responded to the scene to check on his employee. He and another carrier recovered all of the mail so it could be delivered.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
