Two injured when rural mail carrier’s car struck

CONCORDIA — Two men were injured about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday when a rural mail carrier’s car was struck from behind north of Concordia, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

Mitchell D. McMillan, 21, of Mankato, and mail carrier Rellen R. Goebel, 61, of Mahaska, were injured. McMillan was transported to Republic County Hospital following the collision on U.S. Highway 81 near the Union Road intersection, according to the KHP report. A hospital spokeswoman said no information could be given on McMillan’s condition.

According to the KHP report, McMillan was driving north when his vehicle struck the rear of the mail car. McMillan’s Jeep overturned and went into the median.

McMillan was wearing a seat belt, and Goebel was actively delivering mail and could not wear a seat belt when the crash occurred, according to the report.
