Rural Carrier killed in Ashland crash remembered

CATSKILL — A memorial service for the East Durham U.S. Postal Service employee killed in a two-vehicle accident Oct. 5 was held Sunday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

A packed church hosted a heartfelt service celebrating the life of Gina Hernandez. The service brought together family, friends and community members to honor her memory.

Hernandez, 62, was traveling east on county Route 10 in a U.S. Postal Service vehicle at about 1:30 p.m. Oct. 5 when her vehicle collided near the center of the road, near Sutton Hollow Road in Ashland, with a 2008 Lexus RX 350 driven by an unnamed 17-year-old male heading westbound on Route 10, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

With over 20 years of dedicated service to the U.S. Postal Service she was more than just a hardworking professional but a symbol of kindness and positivity, bringing warmth to everyone she encountered, Rev. Martin Yost, rector at St. Luke’s said.
