CLARKESVILLE — A rural postal carrier on her delivery route was the victim of a falling tree in Habersham County Monday afternoon.

Zekeiah “Nikki” Cole Hunt, 36, of Mt. Airy, a U.S. Mail carrier for the Clarkesville Post Office, died instantly when a large oak tree fell on the passenger compartment of her Honda Pilot as it traveled north on Buckhorn Road in the Hollywood community just before 1 p.m. Oct. 23, said Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire on Tuesday.

The Georgia State Patrol investigated the incident.

Hunt’s name and occupation were withheld initially pending notification of family members.

“She leaves behind a husband and three children,” McEntire said. “Please keep the family in your prayers during this difficult time.”
