NRLCA – UPDATE: Social Security Fairness Act Signed Into Law

UPDATE: On Sunday, January 5, 2025, President Joe Biden signed the Social Security Fairness Act into law at a bill signing ceremony at the White House. This landmark bipartisan legislation repeals the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).

Both GPO and WEP unfairly reduce, or in some cases eliminate, Social Security benefits earned by rural letter carriers, as well as other federal and postal employees who are impacted by these two provisions.  The legislation means that retired public service workers, including letter carriers, firefighters, police officers, and teachers, will now see an increase in their Social Security benefits. Thank you to everyone who supported this crucial legislation!
