Oklahoma rural carrier killed while delivering mail

A Ponca City rural mail carrier died of massive injuries at the scene of a two-vehicle collision Tuesday about two miles northwest of Ponca City. Two Ponca City men are also injured in the rural area wreck which happened at 12:57 p.m. in the unmarked intersection at West Tower Road and South W Street.

Brandi Torres, 34, died at the scene. She was the driver of a 2013 Honda CRV, one of those involved in the accident, according to a report by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Malcolm Deming. Her passenger, James Anderson, 31, suffered head and trunk internal injuries. He was transported by EagleMed helicopter ambulance to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. where he was admitted in stable condition.

Torres has worked with the U.S. Postal Service since April 2010, according to U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman Arlene Sanchez.

Anderson is a rural mail carrier associate and was riding with Torres to learn the route, says Sanchez.

Also injured was Casey Linton, 23, who was the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck. He was transported by ambulance to Ponca City Medical Center where he was treated and released with head and

trunk internal injuries.

Deming’s written report states that Torres was driving southbound on South W Street and that Linton was driving eastbound on West Tower Road when the two vehicles “… met and impacted at the

intersection …” of the two dirt roads. Investigation of the accident is still ongoing with the cause listed as undetermined at this time.

  1. This is so sad to here yet another life taken so early(I found out last night)…She had 3 girls I believe and now they will grow up without a mother. Makes me think if it’s even worth it anymore. Condolences from BA, Oklahoma.

  2. I worked with Brandi and James. Brandi has 4 girls…9th & 7th grades and 2 in kindergarten. She was a wonderful mom and centered her life around her family. Her funeral arrangements are pending with Grace Memorial Chapel, 2016 North 14th St. Ponca City, OK 74601. Phone: 580-762-2464. Her home address is 2036 N 5th, Ponca City, OK 74601.

  3. So very sad. Everyone at the National Convention in Grapevine, Tx is deeply mourning the loss of Brandi & sends their thoughts & prayers to her family & to her sub who was also badly hurt.

  4. You were a great friend and neighbor and you will forever be in our hearts. Miss you. We love you too girls and your dad.

  5. Brandi was a great girl! I have known her since jr high, she was an awesome mom and great friend! She will be missed by all! Another angel has been taken to soon! We will miss you Brandi!!

  6. Brandi has four children, all beautiful girls. She would be overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support we have been given. Her family is working on setting up a way people can help with costs. It’s tough these days with so many of us living paycheck to paycheck. If you are in the Ponca City area I know a gift of food would be a blessing for them. Her brother and wife will be caring for the girls, adding four more people to their dinner table.
    God bless you everyone.

  7. So sorry to read about this horrific accident. Our prayers to the families of both carriers from fellow carriers in SW Mississippi. May God keep His arms around Brandi’s husband & girls in the days ahead.
