Postal Service announces more Local Processing Centers keeping local mail local

The Postal Service has provided a list of sixteen Local Processing Centers (LPCs) that will continue processing outgoing local mail rather than having all of their outgoing operations consolidated to a Regional Processing & Distribution Center (RPDC), as originally planned.

The list was shared with the Postal Regulatory Commission on Thursday of last week as part of the PRC’s advisory opinion review of revamping the network into RPDCs and LPCs and ending afternoon collections under Regional Transportation Optimization (RTO).

News reports have previously identified eleven of these LPCs, but five more were first announced in Thursday’s filing: Sioux Falls, SD; Chattanooga, TN; Greenville, SC; Gulfport, MS; and McAllen, TX.
