WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) introduced the Modifying Allocations to Improve Local Service (MAIL) Act, legislation to improve mail operations in Minnesota by requiring the United States Postal Service (USPS) to redistribute the $3 billion in funding originally appropriated for their acquisition of a new fleet of electric vehicles to support the hiring and retention of rural postal employees. These funds were made available through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
“Recently, I’ve heard concerning local reports of mail not being delivered because carriers are spending the majority of their day delivering third-party packages, carriers not being paid for the actual time it takes them to complete their route, and high staff turnover due to unfair working conditions. Sadly, thanks to a policy enacted by the Biden Administration, the USPS is more focused on spending billions of dollars on a new fleet of electric vehicles instead of training and paying its employees properly. Given the issues plaguing the USPS coupled with the unreliability of electric vehicles in cold weather climates, I believe these funds must be better spent. That’s why I am proud to introduce the MAIL Act to require the USPS to redirect the $3 billion in funding to better support rural carriers and customers.”
This legislation’s introduction comes on the heels of the introduction of Stauber’s Rural Mail Delivery Improvement Act, legislation that also aims to improve mail delivery in Minnesota. He introduced this legislation with Senator Amy Klobuchar. Learn more HERE.
He lost me when he decided to blame Biden. Problems with rural mail have been ongoing for years.
He pointed out that those funds could be used more productively. I don’t read this as blaming Biden for years of existing problems.
Seems silly to oppose reallocating the funds to better use, even if he had blamed Biden, which he didn’t.
They will redirect the money to management who will get bonuses based on how abusive they are to rural carriers. I’m guessing you will see a lot more Teslas in the employee lot.
I’m not clear on what you’re implying Teslas have to do with it?
Dont you get tired of posting the same basic comment to every single story on this site?
“BOHICA”, “get out your lube”, “prostate exam”, “management will all be driving new Tesla’s with the money they’re screwing you out of”, the list goes on and on.
If your job is that horrible, if your management team treats you like a slave, if the Postal service screws you over every chance they get then the question begs to be asked… why do you tolerate it year after year. Nobody is forcing you to show up to a job that you obviously hate and according to you they hate you equally as much. You should move on to a different line of work, you would be a lot happier and way less b***hy. Just my opinion.
The problem is mainly the giant shit hole cities/ towns that you people choose to call home. I have worked for the post office for many years now and that shit only exists in shithole places, my advise is if your good at your job find a small office thats not ran like a city zoo.
