USPS preps pay workaround for 45,000 rural carriers impacted by payroll error

USPS spokesman David Partenheimer said in a statement Thursday that the agency “identified a programming issue within its payroll system” that impacted some rural carriers’ paychecks scheduled to go out on Sept. 1.

“We have taken immediate steps to ensure employees will be paid through a salary advance in the form of a money order,” Partenheimer said. “The programming issue has been identified and remediated.”

NRLCA said impacted carriers will receive 65% of their gross pay via money order this Friday. That figure is a rough estimate of a rural carrier’s average take-home pay.

The union said impacted rural carriers will have to pay back their salary advance, but won’t be required to pay it back until after USPS has repaid them the correct amount.

  1. Friday Sept 1st At Work. Mgr. Says no Pay for All Rural Carriers nationwide. No money Orders. Be prepared to not get Paid Today.

  2. File Grievance We need Pay with Interest. Mandate exactly like The Post office does with all Employee Letter of Demands owed to the Post Office. Add Interest to payment owed.

  3. Fortunately for me, I got paid, as did most of the rural carriers in my office. One got 80 hours of nothing including $765 of his missing email. MMS isn’t even over yet and the system is already screwing carriers over. Delivering for Amerikkka!

  4. Lou,
Not true. Affected rboth regular and subs. I’m a regular and got a nice fat zerooooo for 12 days of work. Hope I get a check next payday hahaha ????

  5. So my net pay was 0 so on Friday my postmaster gave me a money order. I went to 3 other USPS offices and 2 banks they all said that I have to wait 48 hours before being able to cash it. So thinking I didn’t have much of a choice I deposited into my bank account where I was told by 5 employees that it would be in there the next day on sat morning. It’s now Wednesday and still hasn’t cleared. Found out today that the fraud dept puts 5 day float holds on money orders because I guess there is a lot of scam going on with money orders. So suppose to get paid on Friday and I won’t see a dollar till a week later and they expect me to come in and do my job. How am I suppose to do that when I don’t have gas to drive the 45 min trip back and forth. I mean there are people out there that live check by check. I know I do.
