Valparaiso, IN Rural Carrier Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash

A 65 year old Valparaiso man was killed as the result of a two-vehicle crash this afternoon at U.S. 30 and County Road 575 East in Porter County’s Washington Township.  The Porter County Sheriff’s Office reports officers responded to the scene at 2:56pm.

An initial investigation shows a vehicle driven by Lee Witters was heading south on County Road 575 East and, for unknown reasons, proceeded through the intersection and was struck on the driver’s side by another vehicle which the Sheriff’s Office reports was unable to avoid the collision.

Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 30, causing it to be closed for several hours between County Roads 450 and 575 East.  Witters was pronounced at the scene while the driver of the other vehicle, a 35 year old Valparaiso man, was hospitalized with minor injuries.
