Tennessee RCA killed in accident

A Cookeville woman lost her life in a single vehicle accident early Saturday afternoon.

Deborah M. Spriggs, 58, of Cookeville, was declared dead at the scene.

According to a report filed by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Spriggs was traveling southbound on Hwy. 96 in a 2002 Nissan Altima around 12:15 p.m. Saturday when she exited the roadway on the right side, overcorrected, crossed the roadway and went off the opposite side, striking a boulder. The vehicle came to rest partially in the roadway.

She was not using a seat belt and, in the officer’s opinion, that would have made a difference in the outcome of the crash.

Officials report that she was a U.S. Postal Service carrier, but it is unknown if she was delivering mail at the time of the accident.
