Rural carrier’s actions help uncover tragedy

Rural Carrier Maci Myers was delivering mail in Cyril, OK, last winter when she noticed a little girl wandering outside a residence.

While it wasn’t unusual for Myers to encounter children on her route, she sensed that something wasn’t quite right. She stopped and asked the girl if she was OK.

The postal employee was uneasy with the girl’s responses and notified authorities.

That simple act of compassion eventually led to the revelation of a terrible crime — and may have saved the life of the child, who was taken into protective custody.

It turned out the girl, 5, had a 4-year-old sister who was missing, and a nationwide search for her was launched.

Tragically, the body of the missing 4-year-old was found in a remote field a week later.

Myers and her husband helped in the search for the missing girl and raised money for the future care of the 5-year-old girl.
