Rural Carrier carries injured customer to safety

Rural Carrier Tony Merschman was recently delivering mail when he spotted a customer who’d fallen in her driveway and couldn’t get up on her own.

Merschman rushed to the woman’s aid and safely carried her inside her residence.

She declined medical attention, but the Postal Service employee was concerned about injuries she sustained when she fell, so he alerted local Postmaster Angela Jobe.

Jobe called the customer’s daughter, and the customer’s son — Roseau, MN, Postmaster Scotie Bellefy — later expressed the family’s gratitude.

“We cannot show appreciation enough to Tony and the Bagley Post Office for going above and beyond their call of duty to help my mom,” Bellefy said. “I have another sister as well who works for the Postal Service, and we are both proud to be part of this great organization with some pretty awesome heroes who do more than deliver mail.”
