Mail carrier dies after West Pullman shooting in Chicago

A mail carrier was shot in her chest and has died Friday on the city’s Far South Side, fire officials said.

Octavia Redmond, 48 and of the Loop neighborhood, has died, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The “unfortunate” attack left the postal worker shot in the chest while in the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue, about 11:40 a.m., said Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Merritt.

Redmond was in front a residence when an unknown assailant fired at her. The shooter jumped in vehicle and sped away westbound on 121st Street, police said.

Redmond suffered several gunshot wounds to her body and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.
