Kirk A. Vannausdle, rural carrier, killed in accident on the route

Kirk Alan Vannausdle, age 60, of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Kirk was born December 1, 1956 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Harry and Marilyn (Mellott) Vannausdle.

He graduated from Red Oak Community High School in 1975 and attended Iowa State University. Kirk was united in marriage to Cathy Silk in 1976 in Red Oak, Iowa. Two children were born to this union: Evan and Beth. He later was united in marriage to Kelly Williams Ayres on January 30, 1999.

He worked for many years in the family business, Vannausdle Construction with his father, Harry, and brothers, Chris and Roger. The past 10 years he has also been a Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service. Kirk was baptized and raised in the First Covenant Church and for the past 15 years attended Faith Community Church.

He was a member of the Postal Union and the Southwest Iowa Horseshoe Association. He had many hobbies including horseshoes, gardening, working, fishing, hunting, golfing, trapping, cutting wood, and any sports event.
